Bruce,
I'm not sure how they get our email addresses, but I'm sure it is not all that difficult. I get these all the time and just delete them. The socalled Ebay contact always refers to an item I'm not selling, or other email that are looking for account updates on your personal information, or threatening to suspend your account etc, always address you as "Dear member". If they were real they should know enough to address it to a member by thier actual name.
The best thing is to be careful. I only answer emails that are mailed to my actual Ebay account. That way I know they are real.

Most of them have been in the form of" 'Message from eBay Member' regarding item xxxxxxxx" Stating that the person has the item off-auction and if I just follow the link and buy the item (often still active) that the item will be mine. The second most common is that my PayPal account has been suspended. Same story. Luckily, my mail filters most of them in the "Junk" box where I can deal with them. I no longer bother forwarding them to eBay as it saves me from receiving two emails from eBay. Most of the attempts are pathetic and simplistic, however I did receive the most sophisticated one a few days ago. And for a few dollars I will send it to everyone ion the list. The curious item is how they receive my email address to send them to? Any ideas? BT
