There were actually two versions of the portacatena:

The one for fitting to the purpose-made dropouts with two holes and tehn another one that could be retro-fitted to any dropout with one single hole. This might be the reason for Ken's single hole.

Steven, I think the single hole was the large triangular cutout in the dropout. The chain hanger had a threaded hole and there was a specially shaped spacer on the outside of the dropout and a single M5 bolt.

Ken was talking about a single small, round hole. I thought he might have been looking at an old 1010 with the one hole for the Sportsman (?) upper spring, but he said the dropouts are short (1010/B). Plus, the hole he does remember is above the axle slot, not between the hanger and axle slot, so it's a very good bet that he actually has two holes and just never noticed the lower one. He doesn't have the bike in front of him at the moment.
