Subject: [CR] "The Flying Scotsman" movie about Graeme Obree --- Recommended viewing!

Watched the "The Flying Scotsman" this weekend, which is an off-timeline movie about Graeme Obree and his hour record breaking and subsequent pursuit world championships. It is in my opinion, a GREAT feel good "Rocky-type" movie illustrating the common man completing superhuman feats! Not sure if it is available in retail video stores, as I rented it from Blockbuster Total Access.

What was amazing to me is that Obree built his own bike for the record breaking ride (using Specialized wheels)!!! If the movie is accurate, the machine used washing machine bearings and hand-formed aero tubing. Sure someone can confirm if this is correct or not.

Now there are some obvious technical errors in the movie (like the small chainring highway speed record in Breaking away), but if you view the movie, try not to concentrate on them, as the story surpasses getting hung up on things like, he's riding a racing bike without toe clips/straps, etc....... Some on-topic narrative in the movie about the previous hour record holders and other cycling greats (e.g., Merckx, Coppi, Anquetil). There's even Franceso Moser cheering on Obree in his record setting ride!!!

For the most part, it's truly a feel good cycling related movie (boy that cycling federation committee sure were jerks)!!!

If you watch it, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
