CRs:

I recall that Easy Off oven cleaner has lye in it, and used to work very well (very !! quickly) in removing anodizing.

However, the last time I used it, there was an additional (anti-corrosive?) ingredient added, which really slowed the anodizing removal down to a crawl.

I think that drain cleaner may do the same stripping job. Again, check the ingredients, and first try it on something non-critical.

A small part is easy to deal with by home-stripping the anodizing, but I prefer to bring bigger parts to the anodizing house to be stripped. It's fast (often while I wait) and not messy or dangerous (to me). You can then spend more time polishing the part to your liking.

You have to figure what your time and safety is worth.

Otherwise, the minimum (lot) charge for anodizing went up for my preferred anodizing house. It was $40 a couple of years ago, but is now $55. I'll bet the stripping costs went up too. OUCH!
