OK, so is this a real Masi? Does anyone know anything about this -- who/when it was made, etc? Does this frame show up on any of the Masi serial number lists? Etc.

Looks like it from the M on the bottom. Not sure about mfg date. We made a few frames for Ken Carpenter during his prime. At the time he got sponsorship from Merlin, and they tried to make him a Ti frame, but it was unrideable because he was so big and strong and it was too whippy, so he had our steel bike painted titanium color and put Merlin decals on it and rode that. He said our bike was the lightest and most stable he ever had, but it was one of the heaviest we ever built. At the time Ken was hooked up with Rene Duprel, also a National Champion and a World Champ runner up. Rene rode nothing but Davidsons her whole career. Shameless plug, sorry. Rene's Dad made our frame boxes in the old days. We go a long way back.

And an on topic pitch: I need a bb or just a spindle for the oversize Chater Lea BB. The diameter is 1.45" and it takes 5/16 balls. I have a useable set of cups but the spindle is unique too because of the larger balls. Just discovered my 40s Saxon track frame needs that size. Also need a couple of those floating double v headset races that go in the headclip style headsets.

cheers
