The closest thing I have to a rationale is along these lines. Most of the classic bikes I own are the ones I used to dream of owning when I was in my teens and could only dream of them. Thus the '73 Paramount, '75 Proteus, '78 Raleigh Pro, and (OT) '86 Miyata 1000. And my '78 Centurion, while not one of the true "Cinelli Centurions", is a very good imitation. Funny thing is, there are always more to dream of...
