I also have several sets of Dunlop Special Light weight rims. One set is the Stainless steel type. Old Brit tyres though not marked. I have found that tyre pressure is VERY important, Over inflate and off the rim goes the tyre, which CAN be a disaster, I also have NOS Dunlop 27x 1 1/4:"Sports" NO pressure stated only that to fit BS rim K3. I also have NOS, two sets of John Bull Road Sprints 27x 1 1/4 that are marked HIGH PRESSURE to fit K Section lightweight rims? SO What is HIGH PRESSURE relative to what? I do know that in my racing days we use to pump like heck till, when flicking the tyre with the fingers it made a nice ping sound, using a 15" Bluebells pump I dont think we could ever get the tires hard enough to blow the rim. So when using any old NOS tires, BEWARE if pumping with modern pumps or infaltor machines, START soft and go up a little at time. I have used Vittoria 27x 1 1/8 tyres and found they ride well and look good, I am going to try find Schwinn 27x 1" see how they are. To day I did ride 54 miles on my KOF 2005 Mercian Vincitore with Vittoria Diamante tires inflated up to 150psi, Fast and responsive until I hit a patch of ice! glad I flew into a snow bank, Maybe my 1950 Mercian with the 90psi Dunlops I would have made it over the ice. Now to another thought. I think the most enjoyable thing when racing in the late 40s early 50s Was the SOUND of Dunlop#3 Tubs singing along at 25-30MPH in a 80+" fixed gear at 7am on a cold English morn, trying to catch my minuet man. Who needs Dunlop Special Lightweight rims.give me sprints any day. Oh to be young again!. Cheers John Crump OldbutnothatoldBrit, Parker, Co USA
