Something about this thread (below) grabbed me, although I had ignored the original post: not in the market now. My own Cinelli (SC) is 15 years older, and I haven't looked much at the mid 80s versions - just too recent for me. The pictures do show some real differences between the two vintages. I love the curve of the newer fork. The lugs on this one are very short, w/o windows. The seat cluster is subtly different. So, if i were Rip van Winkle, and slept through a decade or two, I'd have been confused by this one. In fact, in bike terms, I did sleep through that period.

But given the provenance, it makes sense as a Cinelli that got repainted by someone who may not have done the best job priming (rust coming through at shifters), but who laid down a thin coat very crisply. And then got personalized with the badges. Heck, I once varnished a little Kahlua figure to the top tube of a Raleigh International, because I liked that translucent brown so much.

Sooo, now the question: Is seller asking a premium at for the known provenance, or are repainted late vintage Cinellis is decent shape worth >$2k now? Maybe there are people who would pay a large surcharge to have the documentation, and maybe there are are some who are Svihus fans. That's cool. But I think I've learned enough about Svihus to satisfy myself, and thanks for that.

I do have one bike that I can trace back to the original purchaser in 1965 or so, but I keep forgetting his name, so I guess I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum from the estimable Brett Horton. But, look at what Brett has accomplished!
