I have a guess, worth it's weight in ASCII:-) I'm guessing late 70's but there are conflicting bits on the frame. My overall guess is that this was a low end model based on the seat stay style, components (the Campy stuff being close to the same date). 60's and early 70's models wouldn't have all the braze-ons like water bottle mounts, shifters etc. While these could have been added before a repaint, I'll bet they were factory.

For that era, tubing is just about guaranteed to be Columbus but exact type (SL etc) is tough to determine. As an entry level model, it's likely that some cost was removed in the tubing set.

The fork crown style also matches the approximate era although it too could have been replaced.

"A relative asked me to help ID an old bke he has - when he got it from a shop about 5 years ago he was told it was a Colnago from the late 1960s. To my non-expert eye that appears likely to be correct? "

"Is it actually a Colnago, which model, how old, any guesses about likely tubing?"

I only had a few minutes today to have a very quick look and snap a few photos. http://picasaweb.google.com/MarkABattley/Colnago

It has been repainted yellow at some stage, with no visible logos apart from a couple of bike shop stickers. Cutouts on lugs are quite simplistic compared to pictures of later bikes, is this normal? Fork crown seems correct? Unfortunately I forgot to check the underside of the BB.
