Kurt and all,
Something I learned from a used track bike I purchased a few years ago, most track hubs virtually don't have seals, but an 'O' ring that's a fairly good fit on the hub's cone, and lathered with grease will keep the wet and dirt out pretty well. I've got a fairly modern off topic Surly Steamroller with Dura Ace double fixed track hubs and fat tires that I ride on an unpaved rail trail next to my home. I was constantly repacking the rear hub until I tried the 'O' ring solution and it's pretty much kept them clean ever since. I found a boxed assortment of 'O' rings from Harbor Freight for what I'd call a reasonable price for the assurance of keeping the hubs clean. I'd think that any good period hub set should work well that's been 'O' ring equipped.

Hi folks,
I'm a new list member, so a word of introduction is probably in order. ...
... From the experience of list members, are there vintage flip-flop hubs that are not well sealed and that I should stay away from on a bike that may get caught in a shower now and then while out riding? Or maybe some that have really nice seals and good bearings that make good riders? I'm hoping to avoid any "all show, no go" hubs, so any input on things to avoid or grab would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks! Kurt Henry Lancaster, PA (until recently Mount Holly, NC)
