Well, Tullio went through so much trouble making that Gran Turismo look so grand ... I just gotta give it a place in the rosters! Plus, I'll never know what it means when people say how poorly they shift, unless I actually ride it once or twice myself. This is a continuous learning experience!

Anyway, stuck a wheel in there last night and it looks fine set up this way, as long as the wheel has a bit wider spacing to get the freewheel away from the inner mounting nuts. If this turns out not to work, then I'll be more intent upon removing the unit from the adaptor, but for now, I think it's a go.

I am behind on my c.r. so I hope my response has not been covered already, but Mark, if I recall, isn't the backside of that adapter peened in a couple of spots to keep it from easily unthreading from the bolt? This would explain why it feels almost impossible to remove. I believe you can back that bolt out without damaging the threads. It's been quite awhile since I have fiddled with a derailleur and adapter, so take my words with the proverbial grain of salt.

My other question is, why would you even want to use that anchor of a derailleur? No offense intended, just curious. In my experience they have never worked that well.

Steven Willis also mentioned that. I was hoping that the one here was sleeved too, but alas, it is just a simple back nut, six-sided and flat on front and back. In addition ... MAN! ... I'm a fair bike mechanic, but that pivot bolt just didn't want to thread out of the black adaptor ... it felt like it was tightening the internal spring while trying to loosen. The threads are clearly standard right.

After fighting to less than an eighth of a turn, I paused and thought. Is there any reason not to simply mount the unit & adaptor, rearward of the integral hanger, and pretend the latter isn't there? Seems to me it will lengthen the chainline, and I think I can afford the weight penalty. :)

Here are a few shots of this tried on, although the back nut is not yet replaced for actual use: http://picasaweb.google.com/Torp84SL/Other

So whadd'ya guys think ... will this work ok? I realize it gives me just a bit more funk edge on Harvey, but let's be realistic ... can anybody really, ever, out-funk the original FunkMeister Harvey? Really now? :)

Hope this solves it. Thanks for everyone's help!
