Subject: [CR]Wheel design & strength.........

Hi all, after reading the various posts over the last week about track wheels I thought I'd post this info to get some feedback from the wheelbuilders out there, as I dont build wheels myself, but with my knowledge in the mechanical trades I thought some of the info would make sense to some of you. I guess one can have lighter wheels if the rider is lighter, but there would be so many other factors in making wheels to suit somebody.

Hubs, small flange vs large flange locknut width - 120 vs 126mm. flange width driveside flange position compared to centreline flange thinkness metal alloy/material

Spokes, length - longer vs shorter. gauge - single or double. shape - round, oval & blade. tension - pattern - radial, 2x, 3x, 4x & all other exotic lacings. material - steel, SS, Ti.

Rims, diamter - large vs small. material - Heat treatment - yes vs no. sectional width - small vs large. sectional shape/design. Model - clincher vs tubular.

I've probally left out some thing, will be interesting to see what gets posted...........regards wayne davidson Invers NZ.........
