I'd never heard the abbreviation Campag when I moved to Britain. Talking with my British team mates about which used used track bike to buy, I mentioned that I was looking for a track bike that was "campy" and got blank stares, and head shakes, and comments like "what's wrong with these Americans?" They made it clear they thought it was stupid to ride a campy bike.

Since a Campy/Campagnolo track bike didn't seem controversial to me, I didn't get it until I remembered they said "campag" and then I remembered what the adjective "campy" means:

"adj. overacted or exaggerated (sometimes purposely), kitschy. Example: "The 'Rocky Horror Picture Show" was too campy for him."

Now the fixie fad has given us "tout campy" bikes in a new way ;-)

Maybe some of use feel that way about Colnagos that have been pantographed and color-detailed to within an inch of their lives: campy Campy.
