To me anything that does not add excessive weight, weaken the basic structure or distract from the basic lines of the gruppo are legitimate and race worthy. I too have seen some 50th anniversary gruppos beaten nearly into the ground and they still retain their original attractiveness and most of their functionality. Saying that this kind of thing shouldn't be done to the standard gruppo is like saying that a great athlete should not put on makeup, or have their hair done.

Okay, a great athlete should not put on makeup, or have his or her hair done.

By the way, how does "I too have seen some 50th anniversary gruppos beaten nearly into the ground and they still retain their original attractiveness and most of their functionality," have any meaning? First, the original attractiveness is self-evidently a matter of taste, and from there it is yet another matter of opinion whether a group that is thoroughly enough used to have begun to loose functionality is stll as attractive as new.

I toss around a lot of opinion on CR, sometimes as though it were fact, but I avoid using it as the basis for my arguments.
