In the only scientific test I know of that tried to measure human perception re: bike weight, none of the subjects but one could detect a difference of 5 pounds with any accuracy. For some odd reason, one test subject always guessed/ascertained which one was the heavy bike and which one was light. I believe it was Jim Papadopoulos that did the test or was associated with it somehow, sorry to be so vague. I do remember it was a 5 pound difference though.
Now we all will think we are that one guy who can tell a 5 pound weight difference but I seriously doubt any human can accurately detect a 0.5 lb delta.
