Subject: [CR]Regina Freewheel Surgery - Part 4 (The operation was a success, but the patient died)

A Campy High Flange hub arrived from ebay, with Regina Freewheel firmly attached.

After disassembling the Freewheel to remove the cogs and expose the spoke holes, I built up the wheel. At first I held the FW removal tool in place with a Maillard Quick Release. The QR snapped. almost immediately.

Then I repositioned the hollow axle so that it held the FW remover in place with a bolt. Still not even a budge. So I applied more force. All the extra force simply caused the FW remover to peel off the shoulders of the freewheel. After cleaning the shoulders with a file, I tried again and again with the same result. No budge.

Now that the Freewheel was useless, I tried something else: I hacksawed off the "lips" protecting the pawls. This gave me hefty parallel surfaces to be held by the bench vice.

Finally, on the second tug, the freewheel came loose. The hub is no worse for wear.
