Subject: [CR]Bicycle Quarterly and contradicting research

It appears that some CR listmembers have issues with articles and research published in Bicycle Quarterly.

I invite those listmembers to submit their own, contradicting research for publication in BQ, either as articles, corrections/additions (we do have a "corrections/additions" column in almost every issue) or just letters to the editor.

Bicycle Quarterly strives to stimulate a lively discussion in our pages. Please help to make this happen by collecting the evidence you have and by submitting it.

I also am looking for original historic research. If you have pieced together the history of how Campagnolo went from also-ran in the 1961 Tour de France to sponsoring more than 85% of the racers in 1963, I'd like to publish that. Or if you have put a semblance of order into the various Simplex derailleurs from the 1940s onward. Or any other topic...

When doing your research, make sure you keep good notes on your sources. Bicycle Quarterly articles are fully referenced, so that readers can evaluate our articles.

For example, it makes a difference if a statement on 1950s bicycle racing technology came from a retired racer 50 years after the fact (who may have forgotten or got his dates mixed up), from a 1950s American newspaper article (who may have had little knowledge on racing and may have misrepresented something) or from a 1950s Italian or French technical magazine (who most likely knew what they were talking about). All of those references can and should be used, but obviously, some are more useful than others...

Furthermore, references are crucial for our review process. All our historic and technical articles are reviewed by outside experts, and they need to be able to follow your line of reasoning.

I look forward to your submissions.

Thank you.
