I would like to clarify that I do not expect posts to this list to be exhaustively researched. The purpose of this list is a friendly discussion in "Dale's living room," not academic research.

The recent thread started with somebody questioning conclusions reached in Bicycle Quarterly. I felt that it was appropriate to outline how we reached these conclusions, including the sources, etc.

I am glad that our conclusions are questioned. That is how it should be. I would be even happier if somebody wrote a dissenting article (with references) or a letter to the editor (without references)! It's not that I need more stuff to fill the pages of Bicycle Quarterly, but I like vigorous discussions and exchanges of ideas in our pages.

Finally, we publish articles and letters based on contents, not based on who the author is.

Thanks,

Jan Heine
