I have found a 1984 article by Peter Knottley, who if I remember correctly wrote touring articles illustrated by Patterson drawings, in which he writes:- "Frank Patterson was exclusively a black and white artist, using simple pen and ink and securing tone without "wash" relying on superb penwork." I have read that Patterson did his work from postcards and photographs seldom leaving his Sussex farmhouse but Knottley writes that in his early years Patterson was a cyclist.
