With just over twenty-one hours to run there is a very attractive La Gaz elle road bike for sell on French Ebay - Item No250097594821.
The photos do the bike no justice at all, and of course there are n o real close-ups or shots showing the bike from the chainwheel side. From w hat I can make out the bike is on a single speed, but it does not appear to be a track machine. The wheels are large flange hubs laced on to cane rims ....brakes appear to be CLB/ALP.
If you blow up the photo of the front end fork/wheel assembly you can ju st about manage to detect quite a finely cut fork crown..
There have been at least two La Gazelle and Gazelle frame builders in France since the 50s..this bike appears to be an early 50/60s mac hine, both of whom enjoyed excellent reputations.
The seller is asking 500 euros as a starting price, and there are no bid s at the moment, presumably because the price is too high.
The bike has to be collected from Sens in Burgundy. I shall be not far f rom Sens at some time in the next seven weeks and would be wiling to pick i t up if anyone is interested - the excuse for the pick-up being to give my wife a trip out into the countryside, as she is so enamoured with collectab le French bikes!
