Just one last thing is needed aside from paint, to complete my 1952 Gillott Connoisseur.

When I first became aware of this classic/vintage bike malarky I laughed at the obsessive period correctness of the restorations. If I'd got out then I'd have saved a small fortune. However I got sucked in, and of course now I'm glad i did. Its been a lot of fun and I've learned a lot, mostly from list-members, on and off list -so thank you. I tell myself I'll never do it again. HA HA.

So I've assembled some nice bits to hang on my frame; some lovely Harden hubs laced with correct rustless spokes onto Conloy Asp rims, an unused Simplex Juy 53 with matching double lever, 5" GB 531 stem, early 50's Brooks Champion Narrow saddle. You can see where the cash is going, and also why this has taken me 2 years so far. I'm far from rich.

However one thing remains. When I got the frame someone had hacked off the Simplex derailleur hanger from the forged double-sided Agrati drop-out (these drop outs can be seen in the Gillott section of the scanned catalogues of classic British lightweights that the VCC put out recently). Not wanting to use a clamp on hanger and as the frame needed other repairs I decided to have a replacement brazed on. A doner was cut from the hanger from a Juy 51. Unfortunately because this is designed to sit outside of the drop-out when brazed onto the drop-out's bottom it doesn't sit far enough out, so the retaining nut and spring of the Juy 51 would foul on the cogs, also it just doesn't *look quite right*.

So to cut to the chase, what I need is an early Simplex drop-out with derailleur hanger, like this one; http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/FrameParts/Simplex_R_Dropout_oldstyle.html (thank you MR Bulgier) This would be a doner for the flared lower part and the actual threaded boss. I did have one lined up and in but the seller is very busy with building work, running a buisiness and all, and although this is of the utmost importance to me I can see why it might be slightly lower in his priorities.

So if any of y'all have one of these knocking around in any condition, please let me know and put me out of my misery.

Thank you. Simon Bird Peckham London UK
