Ahoy !
Can anyone shed some light on a puzzle, please?
The frame&fork is an almost N.O.S.* Masi Nuova Strada S/N 09148. Pristine Reynolds 653 decal; yet, the few cataloques I found on-line mention Columbus tubing not R653.
Does anyone have any information on this iteration of "Masi" and Reynolds 653? (Ok - please, no fire storm here. I am not trying to incite any feuding re: "Will the real Masi please stand-up?". I just want to learn about the bike, no politics, no hard feelings. Thank you)
* What I mean by "almost N.O.S." - It was N.O.S. when I purchased it. It still had paint on bb shell and head tube. I installed the bb and hs and it was I who first "kissed" the pristine chrome faced drops out for a five minute look-see with a wheel set. Other than bottom bracket and head set install, bike has never been built further. Been sitting in a cardboard bike box consequently, some handling wear on the paint. no dents. Why nestled in a carboard box? Why else - awaiting the return of the prodigal fund.
Masi Nuova Strada; S/N: 09148; Year = 1989 ? 1991 ? Yes, made in italy, Billato, from what Ind of the Made in Italy Nuova Strada. Reynolds 653 Columbus drop-outs; chrome. Full chrome fork and chrome sloping crown. crown embossed "masi" "Masi" seat stay caps; "Masi" bb shell. 1/2/ chrome chain stay Internal cable routing; braze-on shift bosses & front der. 52 c-c; 53-ish top tube. Medium-dard blue paint with yellow & white decals and those chrome accents - darn pretty, methinks.
Thank you.
