Hi all I have an old early 80's Italian? road frame that is in general good condition but has chrome lifting in places, the whole rear end has been chromed from the seat tube backwards, it is I believe built from 531 or possibly 653, has anyone any experience or recommendations re getting a 'replate' on such a frame, can it be done, who's the best in the UK, would it be better to just to remove the flaky lifting bits and 'chip n fill' the missing areas which are quite small then etch prime and repaint the back end? Bob Jackson has been suggested to me?

My understanding is that it is not possible to replate part of a frame without spoiling the enamel, due to the need to reverse chrome, chemically clean, and polish the frame before replating. The best people I know for chroming and who do all my work are Prestige Electro Platers, not too far away from you at Wombwell, near Barnsley, although soon to move to another location. They will advise you further and can be contacted on 01226 751389.
