I was wondering why the one single-sided cable stop that I had found had the Campagnolo logo stamped upside down. According to a bikeforums member, "Unless a mistake, they will all be upside down when used at the top of the downtube to terminate bar end shift control. They were designed for use at the bottom of the downtube to start the loop up to the front derailleur. Gran Sport, and even early Record needed or had provision for a cable loop." Then a closer inspection of Johnny's 56 Cinelli revealed this:
