Interesting story.. I heard that too, or at least a variation of it. You know, a friend of mine & team member (a guy named Bob Miller) was the rep for Gios at that time. He talked about being told by the importer in NYC that counterfeits were happening but I always wondered if it wasn't a publicity stunt to enhance the brand... The genesis of that doubt was that no one at the time ever actually saw a counterfeit bike nor did any of us hear reports of them, just that they were "out there" and a danger to the marque. And the importer guy was reported to be a little... how you say... "shaky" or "dubiously motivated"? So, I guess my question is, did anyone actually ever see a counterfeit Gios Torino?

Jack, I can't speak for the "real" reason for the lack of respect but I know a lot of guys who raced them in the 70's and early 80's and loved em. But, and I hope my memory hasn't failed me here, I do recall that sometime in this period Gios got hijacked, and someone in the U.S. was producing clones made perhaps in Mexico. I also remember that Gios eventually reclaimed his brand and made an announcement to that effect. Anyone else recall this episode. Edward Albert Chappaqua, NY, USA

I have been contemplating this for a couple weeks while cleaning and getting to original a 77' Gios. You know the one DeVlaminck rode (Chrome fork sans coins). The question is this. How can a frame that has won 4 Paris Roubaix's "Get no respect"?

I know there is a select bunch of us out there that think the Gios ride wonderfully. Why does this frame not have the mojo that let say the all discussed and over talked about Masi (I own 4 Masis), Pogliaghi or Bianchi,,etc does?

I believe there others builders in this "no respect" catagory. In the lists opinion who are these frame builders and why.

Looking for a lively debate.

Respectfully,

Giacomo
