Dear Mitch:
What Cyclone are you using? I've used a Cyclone GT on 32 tooth and triples with no trouble. The Cyclone GT is a real favorite for me, but the cage tends to be too bendable for long tours away from bike shops. Any crash or bike drop may make your derailluer inoperable. The Suntour VXGT is sturdier, but not as pretty or light. I like the Duopars, but my favorite would have to be The Shimano (gasp!) Crane GS. The sprung upper pivot brings the shifting performance close to the Cyclone GT level, and it's sturdier. A long cage Simplex is also good, but I don't have enough experience to recommend it w/o reservation.

Must be able to shift to a 32 tooth cog and handle chain length of a triple. Or are there good trouring ders that only shift onto a 30? One of my favorites is the SunTour Cyclone, but it only shifts to a 28 tooth cog so I don't think of it as a real touring der--despite the fact that it could easily be used with low gears with a small granny in front, indeed as many racing oriented ders have been.
