I've never dealt with Matteo personally, so I can't speak to his customer service skills.

However, if I were in his shoes and received an email such as Paul's first message, containing what could be perceived as a threat (even if it wasn't intended as such), I would have a) immediately refunded the buyer's money, and b) blocked said buyer from bidding on any of my future auctions.

In my experience, when dealing with a buyer who starts off in an even remotely confrontational manner, there is no satisfaction to be had.

It's easiest to simply take the loss, refund all money, and hope that the buyer returns the item.
