Rich,
In Ann Arbor, the Campus Student Bike Shop, 336 Maynard, (734)327-6949 sells used bikes and always has a lot of steel on hand. I have seen some good stuff, but usually less than the Masi/Colnago level.
More shops than previously are classic-aware, notably Two-wheel Tango. Perhaps it's driven by the fixie craze.
Here's a surprise, didn't know about this! Antoique shop, can't say if they
have lightweights.

Another classic-aware shop is Continental Bicycle Shop, 24436 John R Road, Hazel Park, MI. Modern steel is sold here, and some of the staff are very classic-aware. This one is north of Detroit.
If you come to Ann Arbor, you need a bike ride or a beer? Let me know, we have some great brewpubs!

I can't think of any offhand. Unless you count Mark Agree's basement. :)
