Devon, don't take this the wrong way. My comments, and those of some of the others, did not imply that this was not a nice frameset. In fact, it is quite nice. We were merely saying, or at least I was, that this frame is very nicely made, using a tubeset that has no real "snob appeal". There is nothing at all wrong with Columbus Aelle, and this frame demonstrates that you don't need the most prestigeous or most expensive tubeset to make a quite nice frame.
While not known as an Italophile, I do find it admirable that many Italian builders will put this level of effort into a model with a less expensive tubeset, which one expects would mean that the frame itself was significantly more affodable than than a top model with high zoot tubing. In most of the rest of the world, one too often sees frames that shout "Why bother, it's only Aelle?" I think Italian frames like this represent real value. If one has a limited budget, but still wants a very nice bike, bikes like this are a very good and smart choice. In fact, I have a junior road frame bought for my daughter many years ago made from Aelle by the late Ray Gasorowski, builder of Romic frames. Very nice bike.
I think these bikes remind us that as long as the tubing is of reasonable quality, the skill and care of the framebuilder is much more important than the exact tubing used. That's why, at the other end of the price spectrum, many of the very top frame builders never apply a tubing decal to their frames. Their attitude is that the buyer should trust the builder's skill and judgment and not try to judge the quality of the frame from the tubing decal.
