I like to use SoftSoap as a lubricant for this purpose, as well as for installing bars into a stem.

Although in good condition, the hoods are tight and I'm afraid to damage them. A search of the CR Archives hasn't been helpful. I'm sure this is a common problem. Is there a lubricant needed or will warming the rubber help? Any and all advice would be much appreciated by, George Hollenberg MD Westport, CT, USA
