I wonder what the color of the dove was on those very old (1950s) decals that Steven Maasland donated at the Cirque auction? Those were varnish-apply style and very neat with product description and envelope as cool as the decals within! (Thanks again Steven)

When the foil stickers start and/or stop?

The CR Columbus site shows a "very early foil type sticker". This is very similar to the original "sticker" on my Cinelli except that the dove on the Cinelli is black. I have also seen these with a white dove. The question is, does the color of the dove have any significance? I have heard that the color may identify different tubing types with the black being heavier. I'm also suspicious that it may mean nothing other than the white just being a later decal. Are there any experts out there with a definitive explanation? Any timeline for when the various decals appeared?
