Subject: [CR]1970 Gillott discovered

Hi All, A very late Gillott has turned up. So far this is the latest frame number in the old sequence. Until this bike turned up via ebay, the last recorded frame number was 696161. (6,161st frame built since 1945, built in 1969) Now we have 706179. This frame is built by Ron Cooper, as are all genuine Gillotts built since 1958 when George Holt left Southampton Way leaving Ron on his own.
It has Rons' classic Fleur De lis lugs with his signature 'flick' to the side spurs. The numbers are 1/4'' stamps stacked from the adjustable cup side. The question is , where did he build it? He left Edwardes in 1967 and did'nt start up his own shop in Honor Oak until 1970. He did build more Gillotts to special order but the ones I have seen from the 1970's have a different numbering system perhaps based on his own production. If anyone has any answers do let me know. I have asked Ron personally but his recollections are vague. He is still building and recently built 2 mountain bikes for customers in the USA.
