Alex,
It's true - those earlier bike were superb. But I hope my
comments were not totally misunderstood. That is, even the
later frames, which often have a few crude elements, also had
many desirable qualities.
For example, my 1975 LeJeune track bike is more comfortable
than any other track bike I've ridden, as well as being very
light. It was clearly built for larger velodromes - i.e. 400
meter circuits - and it's a reasonably comfortable bike on the
road.
