Patched a tube right on the road last week, even though my wife and I each had a fresh tube. We were at the top of a pass with a nice view, but I usually do patch a tube out on the road if it's warm and daylight. That's partly because I never patch tubes at home in the shop so the open road is it's only chance to get patched.
