As for things not being the same on French pieces, I'd have
to wonder how you initially reacted when seeing the first Phil
Wood hubs? After all, those were "different", and in fact were
something of an inferior version of the Maxi-Car. Some of the
"different" French designs were actually superior, even if
those designs were made more popular when employed by Japanese
manufacturers.
As I've mentioned before, sometimes the frames _look_ a bit
rough, although they _always_ seem to ride well. So there's no
reason to avoid the stuff as if it were a plague.
