Turmoil on the Tourmalet

Stage 9, 1931 Tour de France. The crowd closes-in on Antonin Magne (#33) and Antonio Pesenti (#16) as they pause to drink from bottles at the summit of the Tourmalet. Behind them, Tour founder Henri Desgrange (light suit) yells and waves for the crowd to clear a path. I think that's a young Jacques Goddet - Desgrange's successor - in the flying helmet. On the descent from the Tourmalet Magne would catch the leading group and win the stage, taking the yellow jersey which he would win through to Paris. Note the pile of bikes, man holding TdF program/guide, and wide variety of hats, caps, cameras. From "l'Intran-Match" #253, 14 July 1931.
