Charles,

The 1962 Masi Special I had, the black one, cost $170 from Velo Sport

at that time. This is according to either Albert Eisentraut, who

originally got it for his wife, or Peter Rich. I don't remember which

of those two persons told me that; but both of them are still alive.

Not sure which one, if either would still be able to tell you that

directly; but I do remember someone telling me the retail cost was

$170 in 1962.

Hey all.

I'm wondering what a Masi Special would have cost in 1962. Brand new

with the usual Campagnolo Record group and sew-up wheels. Chromed

lugs, with smoked seat-tube. What, for instance, would Peter Rich

have charged a customer for one back then?

I'm doing a bit of research on collectible premiums..how some bikes

seem to sell for the equivalent of their original *new* price, and

some sell for a lot more.

It's relatively easy to establish original prices for 70s bikes, but

60s bikes are a little harder to get a bead on.

Please e-mail me privately, as well as to the list.

Thanks!
