Paul Patzkowsky asked:

I've been told recently that Normandy and Maillard hubs were made by the same French company. Same hub with different names. Is this true? Thanks in advance.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'm not at home now, but here is what I think I know, which is at least tangentially related:

1) I consistently find identical hubs with either Atom or Normandy branding. 2) My memory is that (early?) 60s Schwinns used these; later they had the same firm build their "Schwinn Approved" hubs with slightly conical flanges (leaned in) and ~triangular holes in the flanges instead of the round ones on Normandy/Atom. 3) I think I've seen Maillard that were also identical (to Normandy/Atom), but I'm not sure. Wasn't Maillard Ron Kitchings' house brand?
