I'm not sure if an untimely demise makes all that much difference. Two builders who spring to mind with the same credential, McLean Fonvielle and Stan Pike both died quite young, both had limited production numbers and both built really excellent bikes. Yet neither builder commands the sort of veneration and money that a Confente brings. There are probably other examples too, but I'd have to guess it's more the Masi Mania connection than his tragic young death which drives the train on Confente prices.

Not to belabor the obvious, but part of the reason is that Confente died you ng... a tragic loss that saddened many. Mr. Wizard on the other hand, lived a long and full life.
