Regarding the RH "debate", I don't believe in all this theorizing and ebay sale price as actual bike value any more than I do with people venting personal gripes/anismosity by using brands or each others bikes as tools to undermine the enemy. Ebay is utterly and totally useless as a tool for monetary valuing a bike or part, the prices can range 100 to 1 over a very short span time indeed (amount of stuff on the market, full moon, you name it).

As to my opinion of people who think or suggest that ebay prices reflect quality, I won't comment, as I once had my mouth washed out with soap as a kid for using foul language and I wouldn't like it to happen again.

Much as I dispaprove of the "cult" surrounding certains marques distracting totally from less "worthly" machines, anyone who thinks a later Herse is systeatically no good just hasn't seen enough of them, hasn't ever seen one, or is talking pure, unadeltered deliberat rot. As pointed out, the head mechanic was making some better stuff than René himself at one point in time.

My main point is that judging a brand of bicycle by one particular model is as silly as saying that all Mercedes are equal in quality to the bottom of the range model. In effect, I have seen a couple of late Herse racers which would make that piece of Italian plumbing look as refined as a Korean MTB. There were good Herses, and fabulous ones. Undoubtdly, there were good Masis, and better ones. For all I know, maybe some rather poor ones.

Common sense dictates that the biggest factor in price determination is rarity, and I think that there have been a lot more Herses found and ebayed than there have been top of the range Masis.

If I have offended anybody it was purely unintentional, as usual.
