As I recall, if we're thinking of the same bike, for me more bells went off than a 3-alarm fire. No decals... missing or simply the wrong headbadge... the wrong components... the slanted seat stay caps which Bob Hufford mentioned...

There are many incredibly stupid people on eBay - as everywhere else. I would tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the Seller and can imagine that he is simply a stupid person, perhaps even easily led by someone who casually offered their equally ignorant opinion. Surely all of us would just love to dream that we have found real treasures in the dump. Some of us know how to research details about bikes and know where to best inquire. We want to actually know the truth because bikes are very important to us. Other folks simply believe what they prefer to think because it may fill their wallets.

All just more reasons why we have to keep vigilant and consult those who know more than we do (such as on the CR Mail list). And always to seek to learn more than we already know.
