I've personally only seen these in 26.0. The one I have on my 1988 Mercian KoM holds just fine. I think I'm using a Nitto "Dream Bar". I believe these stems were made by Nitto for Shimano.

1) Do they take a 26.0 or a 26.4 mm handlebar, or did they come in both sizes?

2) Do they require a specific knurling on the bar to grip correctly. I recall the similar Cinelli 1-R having trouble gripping bars that did not have good, clean Cinelli-style knurling.
