I finally found some spokes and built up a rear 30 h wheel Spanish or Rov al style. I visited Baron Corpuz's bile shop a couple weekends ago and we measured the spokes on a rear wheel that he built up some time ago. Hubs - Zeus HF Rims - Mavic tubular Spokes from Universal Cycles 20 - 276mm 10 - 286mm Next time, I think I may try a spoke length that is 2mm shorter. When the spokes nipples are tightened correctly, there are no threads showing on the spokes. I also measured the spoke tension on my wheel and found the tension in th e spokes on the drive side at the upper end of the allowable range while the tension in the spokes on the opposite side are at the low end range. Not quite "Roval style". I hadn't even imagined this odd, 3X way!

On my 24-spoke Roval rear wheels, there's 2 crossed DS spokes for every (radial) NDS spoke. There's no extra "holes" (tapered slots, actually) in

the flanges for the straight, T-head spokes and their rim's 24 spoke hole s are all equally spaced. Whether Jerry's 30-hole rear hub would have to be laced either way, "Rova l" or "Zeus", would depend on whether the hub drilling is 15-15 or 10L-20R.

Roval's advantage was more-equal spoke tensions left-to-right, and rememb er these remained in production into the 8-speed era when dish became yet mo re severe. They even addressed the axle bending/breakage issue (as did Maill ard and Shimano in their own ways) with a special, extra-fine, extra-shallow

threading on their 10mm rear axle.

Roval's biggest faults are hidden (by the tire) nipple hexes and the thic k, nylon washers under the nipple heads, causing tension loss over time (why I got mine so cheap!). As special-event or pro wheels, neither problem precluded their practicality, but as occasional-use wall-hangers or seaso nal warriors it can present an occasional hassle. Thankfully I have yet to ha ve a nylon washer ever split, but will they last forever?
