The post-ride dinner was livened by the presence of Brett Horton. He bore with him on this occasion a silver vessel presented to Hugo Koblet upon winning the 1951 Tour, which for awhile shone brightly next to the peperoncino shaker atop our humble table at Beppos.
The weather smiled on the group but as usual the forces that oppose mechanical performance nipped at our heels. When Dave flatted his tire, Greg Davis generously handled the repair and I am happy to report that unlike the unfortunate experience of some other Samaritans he was actually lauded for this effort.
