Mitch, Did the Suntour calipers really come with red pads, or is it that shops typically sold them with the Scott-Mathauser friction material? That's how I purchased the combination here - from Rivendell, when they first started up their operation: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fred_rednor/2254227880 I'm actually not entirely certain how well these would work with a road bike on a serious descent. They're on the front of my track bike and come off for racing. The only real stopping I do with this brake is to avoid tourists at Hains Point in D.C.
