looks like we're also backwards on the lineage of the front changer as well. the "flat" one i mentioned has no slots or holes in the outer cage plate, and it's also put together with allen bolts. the clamp is also "backwards" in that it is hinged on the leftside, whereas the one with the four slots hinges on the rightside. other than the black clamp, with white relief shimano logo on front, they couldn't be more different.

also neat about the hole placement in the levers. maybe the staggered pattern was less breakage prone in a fall.
