After looking through his collection of vintage wool, a fellow NYC Listmemb er and I were discussing some of the classic cycling films and how much fun it is to see not just the old team wool racing kits, but the other team ge ar that one doesn't come across too frequently: winter caps, zip-ups, colla red team sweaters, team mechanic wear, mussettes, etc. I described to him something I had seen in "A Sunday in Hell" that I have b een trying desperately to locate. I wonder if any of you (aside from Brett Horton, who has at least one of every interesting old original jersey ever ) happen to have in your collection one of the following: There is a scene in "A Sunday in Hell" when Roger De Vlaemnick is on the ma ssage table, wearing some white shorts...(Oh wait. Those are tan lines!) T he masseuse rubbing his legs in the scene happens to have on just about the coolest t-shirt ever: A tight white tee, "Brooklyn" arced across the top, with two red stars on e ither side and a half-toned drawing of De Vlaemnick's face, wearing a Brook lyn cap with the bill flipped up. I MUST HAVE THIS SHIRT. Not since I first saw "Rad", the 1986 BMX classic, at the tender age of 8 h ave I wanted a piece of cycling clothing quite so badly. So is there a chance that it's "out there"? Anybody have one? Know of one? Or will I have to hire a team of skilled illustrators and graphic designers to freeze-frame the DVD and re-create it for me? The closest I have seen was an extra-small, pink women's t-shirt with Simon etti's face on it that came up on eBay. I debated between forcing it upon my poor girlfriend or getting myself a se x change, but alas my better judgement somehow managed to get the best of m e (this time) and I let it go. Tell me about your interesting, old and on-topic t-shirts!
