"Well, let's see:

rhclassics on eBay is Alexander March, afaik, so your relationship to him would be...?

Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan"

Thanks Greg for taking time out to ask. Alexander March is my brother as almost anybody who follows the list knows. He does deal, yes. He is much hated for it by a lot of unsuccessful, or rather less successful, people. The March family collection started many years ago, and it is one of the finest in the world. Bicycles unique destined to rot have been saved in quantity and quality you maybe have no idea of (this at a time when nobody else was interested in bikes here). Knowledgeable list members may be able to enlighten you on this matter.

I am totally independant in my collecting. I have a very small quantity of vintage bikes which I like and ride. Nothing even remotely spectacular to you in all probability. I do not exactly see eye to eye with my family on the collection issue, I make no secret of this. You will have noticed that I mentioned that RHClassics was reputable, and others too, others whose names do not spring to mind since I am not even remotely interested in what other people sell or do unless they are cheating customers, swindling widows or behaving in other unsavoury manners. I stand by all the points I made and issues I raised, and continue to reccomend either buying at source level (the widow bike just made 3500, cf previous post on how to be popular, to which you refer) or from an established person of decent morals. I would, and no doubt other list members too, appreciate your suggesting some reliable names, people whose bikes and gear are most definitely not of dubious provenance or suspect pedigree, oftnot misdescribed or faked.

So, in a nutshell, I have not the remotest interest financial or else in plugging for RHclassics. In fact, quite the contrary, they are after much the same gear as me, and we are oftnot in competition for buys, even though I am a very small fish in the collecting world. If you would like to contact me oflist, I will willingly supply you with the names of two other decent people I know who most definitely do not cheat. If, that is, they want their names circulated, I would have to check with them first.

Your issue is valid, I hope my explanation is too. I would like to point out also that unless one is mightily rich, one funds one's collection via swaps or/and sales: bikes pay for bikes. I operate this way and this way only. As do a whole load of other people. By this I mean that just because a person sells you can not infer that he is a squalid dealer interested only in money. Not of course that you did infer anything like that.

Lastly, I must stress that I don't know any afaik, but if you mention him, I guess he must be a good guy too. If he has a small stock of totally rot, crack, slime or else free hoods suitable for 1973 vintage Mafac brake levers, he can get in touch with me, I might be interested. I don't mind if you are related to afaik as long as he is trustworthy.

With that I will let this subject drop. You are of course free to contact me offlist for any other info that you may require and which I might deem acceptable to share.

Kind regards

Nick March, Agen, 47, France.
