Not sure if it was the same model, but I think Simplex barends go back at least to the early 60's. I've seen somewhere recently photos of Tom Simpson's Gitane from the early 60's, before he joined Peugeot, and I'm almost sure that it had Simplex barends. From photos, it seems Mr. Tom almost always used barends, including while on Peugeot, They could have been Campy, I suppose, but that would have been highly politically incorrect on a Peugeot team bike.
