Subject: [CR]SturmeyO'Philes Explain This

I've heard of it happening. One of the more common disasters apparently, but I need an explanation before I take this thing apart and start crying. My FM exploded. I was in first gear (always a tenous proposition on an FM), but not pressuring it. All of a sudden there's a grinding and the wheel refuses to turn, forwards or backwards. When I delicately force the issue I hear a clunk. Walked the remaining mile out of Sabino Canyon carrying frame on a shoulder and rear wheel in a hand. Looking at the hub, there's a frightening reverse divit, a break in the shell. My most favoritist hub in the history of the world is dead. Oh the humanity of it all. So what happened?
